Introduction:

This trip we were asking questions about:

blowout
bog trotting
docks
granby
sand dune succession

glacial landforms

urban regeneration

and urban zoning

What we did:
"Extreme geography measurements" Mini-glaciers in the sands of Borth. Videos recorded in the Albert Dock and poems rapped on the Granby streets. From the sublime sounds of the choir in the great Anglican Cathedral to the depressed streets of Garston and Speke. Amongst the Friday night revellers in Liverpool bars to the wild-haired locals locked in a tiny Welsh pub we extended our own geographies and learned more about ourselves and each other.

The Arrival! (by Naomi)
When we first arrived at Borth we almost drove through the centre without even realising we had reached it, which can give you an idea of the scale of the village. This was a major culture shock to us inner city kids used to the continuous hustle and bustle of London. However, everyone appreciated the novelty of being surrounded by such vast expanses of open space and the wonderful views from the youth hostel of the sea on one side and an expanse of hills on the other.
As you can guess, Borth was not a hotspot for all night clubbing but we amused ourselves with games on the beach on our way into town. These started with trying to hit a traffic cone with pebbles from the beach but Mr Bown quickly moved on to bigger and better targets finishing with a tractor on the beach that later turned out to belong to the local fishermen!

not setting a good example

We quickly left the scene of the crime and headed to the "centre" of the town. We gathered outside the first pub we came to but were quickly moved on by a drunk landlord charging us with causing a riot. We were more encouraged when we reached the "Friendship Inn" who welcomed us despite it probably being the first time party of mixed origin people under 65 had drunk there in a long time. I think our first night at Borth proved to us that a pleasant evening can be had despite not having the large range of activity options that we take for granted in the city.
