Year 7 at Hampstead School conducted a survey on street crime & the results have shown that the quantity of muggings is higher near Hampstead School. It has also shown that phones are the most likely things to be stolen; also males are most at risk.

We collected the information by doing a survey & asking most of the school to fill in a sheet asking questions about if you were mugged, & if so the details. We made a map of street crime using a piece of software called Aegis 3.

We had a conference at school and asked some important members of the panel (which included police & the Camden council) some questions to do with street crime. We asked if cctv systems are a good thing & the answer from the Superintendent was, "yes but only if someone is watching & is able to come & help you if your in distress".

The panel included Andy knowles Head teacher Superintendent Edwards (Kentish town) Felicity Robinson (Camden Council) and Diana Freeman (Computers in Education Advisory Unit

Every crime reported to the police is recorded & the police try their best to sort it out but they can't always do so, especially when they haven't got enough evidence to sort the problem out.

The police could reduce the amount of street crime by changing or adding new equipment to the streets like more street lights & CCTV cameras that work & a person to watch them 24hrs a day. The council is responsible for improving the streets.
We also learned that students could act sensibly to reduce their chances of being attacked.
