Hello Year 8 students.

You have arrived here because you have been given a research task on the subject of desertification. To do this task well you will need to do some independent study using the web sites and ideas below. The more research you do the higher the level of achievement, BUT make sure that you read the instructions on the work sheet carefully before you start.

DON'T be tempted to copy directly from the web sites when you are writing your report. You must be able to show your teacher that you have understood what desertification is, how it is caused, why it is a problem and how it can be prevented.

Deserts
This is the web site to look at first. You can spend some time reading about deserts, but the most important page is this one about desertification.

Desertification at Britannica .com
This takes you straight to the relevant page at Britannica.com. Some of the articles are difficult to read but there is so much information here to extend your work

Want more help? Try looking up desertification from the Encarta CD Rom.

Students work.
You can also read some work about soil erosion by Hampstead students here, and visit this web site about the Great Dust Bowl if you like.
