Useful Resources

The revised National Curriculum specification has been published and we have developed a new course which contains the best of our existing topics but offers more scope for fieldwork, independent study and enquiry work. We will be giving students more opportunities to develop the Key Skills of literacy numeracy and ITC. In addition we will be investing in a wider range of text books and resources.

BOOK LIST:

We use the following text books for KS3:

Earthworks 11 -14 Geography Project John Murray is our main text book

geog 1 Oxford

Key Geography series Stanley Thornes

Most lower school geography texts are currently produced in series, making purchase an expensive proposition. However I do recommend that students have access to an atlas with statistical information, we use the Collins Longman Atlas ISBN 0-582-29241-7 at school. This can be purchased through our bookshop.

USEFUL RESOURCES:

Clean Slate is the name of our new project. It is a collection of on line resources to support the whole of the national curriculum scheme of work.

CD-ROM's are increasingly popular and Encarta Reference Suite, which includes the excellent World Atlas, is recommended, although the reading level is high for lower school students. We do not allow students to hand in research homework that comprises printed out material from electronic encyclopaedias or the Internet, but we do encourage students to read and research as widely as possible.

Sim City remains the definitive geography PC game!
